I was honored to photograph a dear friend of mine and her sweet kiddos a little before Christmas. I love how perfect the weather was–it had just snowed, so the trees were covered in fresh snow. These pictures are definitely “Christmas Card” material!
One challenge to photographing people in colder weather (especially younger people) is trying to get them to not “look cold.” haha You may notice this in the first photo especially. I tried to encourage them to roll their shoulders back and think “warm” thoughts and that helped. It also helped that we had a second location, so they got to put their coats on and warm up in the car between locations.
When photographing kids, you really do have to go with the flow. One of the boys insisted on being photographed with his dirt bike, so while the others warmed up in their jackets, I took the extra handful of minutes to keep him happy and I actually really like how the picture turned out. It’s those little happy surprises that happen that maybe you weren’t expecting… those are usually my favorite shots. And, while it’s important to plan ahead and have ideas, it is also good to be open to what you find once you start shooting.
The teal door is one of my favorite parts of the session–when I was scouting locations I found it and insisted on including it in the session. I’m so glad Kim obliged! And I love that she coordinated their outfits in complimentary tones/colors.
Thank you, Kim & kiddos for allowing me to photograph you!
Like what you see? Book a session with me!
