Portfolio :: Rainy Day Family Portraits

From the archives….

A few summers ago I took photos for this sweet little family on their farm.  Tori found me through word of mouth and my facebook page.  I’ve since dropped facebook, but I would say my number one way of finding clients is through word of mouth and I kind of like it that way…  We ran into a few snags with it being a rainy day.  We opened as many light sources as possible in the barn and still got some good shots in the barn.  In one of the shots you see the happy couple holding a photo with a photo inside the photo–every year they take a new photo together and hold the photo from the prior year.  Kind of cool and a fun concept!  How cool with that look in ten+ years?!  The best shots (obviously) were outside.  My favorite shots are with the umbrellas–especially the very last one.  So much bright color and fun.

Portfolio — From the Archives :: Kim and her family {Family Portrait Photography}

As I was going through some of my photos, I realized I had a few sessions I never uploaded!

Kim asked me to take some portraits for her family Christmas card.  I had previously worked with her and was thrilled to be asked again!

Here are some of my favorites from the day…

Portfolio : {Family Portraits}

My friend Michelle knew she’d have a lot of their family in town for her son’s graduation, so she contacted me to take some family portraits.  It was a very sunny day, but with all of the rain we’ve been getting lately, I was just glad it wasn’t raining!  The two youngest kiddos did so well!  It can feel stressful being the parent of a small child for large family photo sessions.  Maybe they aren’t looking right at the camera in every photo… and maybe they aren’t smiling when they are.  But they are in the photos and a part of the memories.  And we still got some good photos!  Another obstacle was the wind!  I made sure to take plenty of photos and we occasionally took quick breaks to smooth out hair or tuck it behind ears.  Because we were working with a large group and small children, we decided to stay put in one location (in front of a gorgeously green tree in their yard) to make it easier to transition between photos and to maximize our limited time before the younger kids hit their limit.  And of course there were leftover graduation cupcakes to enjoy at the end!
